SALONE DEL MOBILE MILAN 2011

TON in Milan not only with Merano and its Red Dot

The Czech company TON, manufacturing seating furniture from bentwood, will also present itself at one of the most significant events in the furniture industry and design, the Salone internazionale del mobile in Milan, which also includes Salone Satellite, presenting modern design, Euroluce with light fixtures and lighting and last but not least SaloneUfficio, presenting office equipment. At the time of the Milan shows there are many other interesting events, exhibitions, presentations or workshops going on in various parts of Milan, all connected with the word DESIGN.

TON brings novelties from young European designers to Milan from the place where the 150th anniversary of bentwood furniture is celebrated, having already won many prestigious awards, such as RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2011 for the MERANO chair or the Furniture of Year 2011 for the WAVE armchair.

The concept of the stand that can be found in hall 12 - stand B21, was created by the Olgoj Chorchoj design studio represented by the duo of Michal Froněk and Jan Němeček, who founded the studio during their studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Since that time they have been involved in industrial design, furniture design, architecture and interiors. For example, they have created a limited edition of stylish sled for TON, made of exclusive ashwood, or the SIMPLE chair presented in Milan.

Among other things, top five novelties for 2011 will be presented at the trade fair in Milan:

Merano - new modern chair, which won the RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2011, got its name from the hometown of the Italian designer Alexander Gufler. The dominant elements of the chair are two bent plywood sheets axially intersecting each other, serving as the seat and the back support. Despite the bends, legs (bearing element) of the chair deny the traditional bends of the TON products and they remained completely straight.

002 – the chair is the winner of the "Bentwood no limits" competition. The designer Jaroslav Juřica (Czech) followed the tradition of Michael Thonet when he managed to simplify the chair, consisting of two structural bentwood parts while maintaining comfort and perfect design.

Simple - all-wood chair, the seating part of which verging on the leaning part is made of plywood, is a reaction to the market flooded by cheap low-quality chairs with metal footing often of bizarre shapes. Design: Olgoj Chorchoj (Czech).

Wave - the rocking chair is the winner of the competition for the best re-design of a classical rocking chair, announced on the occasion of 150th anniversary of bentwood furniture in Bystřice pod Hostýnem. The young Slovak designer Michal Riabic combined not only a rocking chair and a lounge chair, but in particular a space solitaire.

Petalo – Silent servant by the Italian designer Eugenia Minerva is the winner of "HONORABLE MENTION“ in the category of Product Design 2011, awarded in the prestigious competition RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2011. In Petalo, elegance is combined with practical comfort and reasonable price. Trying Petalo will continuously change into a moment when the solitaire will become a natural part of an interior with fine-tuned design.
